ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN THE COLLABORATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF CARTOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATIONS OF PROTECTED AREAS

The existence of Conservation Units (CUs) is not recent, but since the official creation of the first one, their objectives have been varied and to meet them they have differed throughout the world. More recently, with due scientific evidence of climate change and consequent extinction of species, directly or due to habitat loss, discussions about CUs and Protected Areas as a whole have become more frequent and have proven to be relevant to various debates, including the need to review concepts and forms of use. In this context, this article, derived from research that includes five Conservation Units, presents an outline of the contribution of Environmental Education in Collaborative Mapping, seeking to go beyond consolidated forms of its implementation by focusing the leading role on the various audiences that take part in the activity, sharing with educators, artisanal fishermen, public managers and tourist guides participatory methodologies aimed at including participants in environmental protection through Education.
