Abstract

The research dealt with the impact on access and permanence of students before and after the implementation of quotas by Law 12,711 with the social markers of gender, income stratum and race/color on the Nova Venécia campus of the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo and found indication that this affirmative action contributed significantly to the democratization of access to this institution, especially when working with the race variable. The research was a case study on that campus and worked with data from students in the institution's academic system, reinforcing the understanding of the adequacy of the quota policy, especially with the need to maintain an action with reference to the racial issue.
