Abstract

Previous studies suggest that there are academic benefits and socio-educational and behavioral improvements when a student's family is directly involved in their school life, be it father, mother or other guardians. In this article, we obtained estimates of changes in performance in 6th and 7th year students from the Public Network of Recife, when they were directly monitored by their families and guardians in various activities, with data collected from the Longitudinal Monitoring Survey of School Performance of Students from the Public Network of Recife. Recife Elementary School (FUNDAJ, 2018). It was found that students whose parents attend pedagogical duty have increases in their Portuguese Language and Mathematics grades, while students whose parents punish them for low grades tend to perform worse in subsequent assessments. A possible correlation was also observed between aggressive behavior at home and bullying in the classroom.
