As migrações recentes no Rio Grande do Norte: notas sobre um estado “ganhador”

Abstract

RESUMO Caracterizada como uma região que tradicionalmente “expulsa” a população migrante, o Nordeste tem passado por mudanças significativas no período recente e que permitem que novas dinâmicas migratórias sejam identificadas. O Estado do Rio Grande do Norte assume especial importância, pois é um dos poucos que apresenta saldos migratórios positivos na década de 1990, fato que se consolida ao longo da última década. O artigo, portanto, faz um panorama do processo migratório recente do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte, acenando para as principais questões que emergem dentro deste debate e das novas direções e potenciais análises que serão iluminadas à luz dos resultados do Censo Demográfico 2010. ABSTRACT RECENT MIGRATIONS IN RIO GRANDE DO NORTE: NOTES ON A “WINNER” STATE Characterized as a region that traditionally “expelled” the migrant population, the Northeast has experienced significant changes in recent years and new migratory dynamics can be identified. The state of Rio Grande do Norte is of particular importance because it is one of the few that has positive net migration in the 1990s, a fact which is consolidated over the last decade. The paper therefore makes an overview of recent migration process of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, looking to the main issues that emerge in this debate and of new directions and potential analyzes which will be illuminated in the light of the results of Census 2010.
