Abstract

RESUMO Discute a sociedade brasileira como um encontro de Oriente e Ocidente, hipótese de Gilberto Freyre segundo a qual o povo brasileiro se insere de modo sui generis na civilização ocidental. Conclui que, na década de 30, essa hipótese permitiu arranjos políticos que excluíram grande parte da população das decisões públicas. ABSTRACT Brazil: Another West?
