Preservation of Artistic Heritage:

the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation Video Art Collection

Abstract

Video art emerged in the 1960s, bringing with it several discussions and ruptures in relation to the vision of art at the time. Since its emergence, it has been one of the contemporary aspects of art, becoming important within the current artistic context. Its importance as a support for artistic production transfers equal relevance to all information and collections about its historicity and development over time. With this in mind, this article aims to reflect on the constitution of the video art collection of the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation (Recife - PE) and its relevance as an art promoter and as a preservation of artistic heritage. To this end, bibliographical and documentary research was carried out, using news published in newspapers and institutional documents, in order to organize as much information as possible about the collection, which is one of the largest in Latin America.
