This article aims to analyze the details of the act of killing in Brazil, describing the microphysics of death in the country. To this end, based on secondary data and information, behaviors that end in homicides were observed, as well as cultural and religious aspects that are related to violence. Headlines from the main newspapers in the five regions of the country highlight the insignificance of life, exposing the banality with which death is treated in Brazil. Finally, we made a comparison between deaths resulting from crime with those committed by people previously uninvolved with the world of crime, and we saw that these are responsible for the majority of murders in the country. Therefore, we conclude that one of the main factors that place Brazil at the top of the ranking of the most violent countries in the world is the degree of civility of the population and the absence of otherness in human relations.
