Article fits into development theories as an attempt to provide more support to the field of literature in population and development studies, integrated into the Master's degree in Population and Development at Eduardo Mondlane University. This is a literature review article based on existing materials with a view to understanding the asymmetries that exist between developed and developing countries (rich/north and poor/south) in the context of globalization that has characterized the current world. Since globalization is a process that involves increasing integration between countries, through increased international trade, foreign investment and capital flows, as well as the dissemination of communication and transport technologies, it has also brought with it a series of challenges, including accentuating the asymmetries between the rich in the North and the poor in the South.
