Collectors of recyclable materials in the municipality of Corrente-Piauí

Abstract

The article reflects on the work of collectors of recyclable materials in an open dump in the municipality of Corrente-PI. The work was developed with six families who live in one of the districts of the city of Corrente, where the dump is located. This study is justified by the importance of the role of the collector of recyclable materials for socioeconomic and environmental development. The central question that motivated the development of this analysis was: how do waste pickers analyze the work of collecting recyclable materials for socioeconomic and environmental development? Thus, the objective of this article is to analyze how the way of work of the collectors of recyclable materials, from the economic point of view, as well as thinking about how this work contributes to the preservation of the environment.
