Abstract

People who identify themselves as LGBTQI+ are subject to discrimination in all areas of social coexistence, whether family, professional or at leisure. This discrimination, justified by sexual orientation or gender identity, is called LGBTphobia. We observed a gap in research relating sexual diversity in organizations to Gastronomy. Thus, this work aimed to analyze the LGBTphobic practices perceived by LGBTQI+ professionals working in the area of gastronomy in the Northeast Region of Brazil. For this, we conducted an exploratory descriptive research, with a quantitative approach. The results showed that the most common practices are embarrassment in the form of jokes, teasing and mocking by colleagues and superiors. Although the percentages do not represent a majority, they are worrying, given that no worker should be a victim of this type of violence in the organizational environment. In conclusion, we emphasize the role of the managers of organizations to avoid LGBTphobic practices through policies that foster inclusion and respect for diversity, which clearly informs participants of the expected behavior in view of the diversity of its members.
